This Is My Name Now: noel(le) longhaul
Posted by noel(le) longhaul on March 23, 2011 at 2:57 a.m.
Howdy friends,
I've got a new album out, after a long time in the making. It's called "This Is My Name Now" (ha! self-titled punnish thing!), and it's got eleven tracks and it's up for free download on my bandcamp. If anyone would like a physical copy of it, I'm doing a pretty limited run of about fifty copies. I printed the cases m'self, and they're nice and wrapped up in a patch and some nice yarn--every copy's a l'il bit different.
The songs are representative of the last six months or so of my life--the first one I wrote is "little wanderer," after finding myself alone and directionless in Montreal, at the beginning of the summer. The rest were either written in my trek across country or in the aftermath of returning to the Northeast to process what were some of the most healing and formative months I have ever had. After the most painful and difficult year of my life, the last summer was, to quote Paul Baribeau, "the first time that i noticed that i was slowly, but surely, coming back together." Some songs are well-wishes to old friends, others laments for lost ones.
There's a sense of completion and accomplishment that comes with giving something a name. We can understand something through a single word, grasp all the disparate and chaotic memories and emotions wrapped up in a period of time, and call it "This" and call it "Mine," or more truly, "Ours." For me, this is the first step to what Telling Yr Story comes down to.
So all of these songs are stories, some of which are told with no words at all. It's strange for me to imagine listening to some of them without all of the accompanying images, colors and feelings that I have in my own head--but y'all have yr own stories and memories--hopefully mine are ambiguous enough that you can find something in it that's of you.
Happy, nameless.

| Wood Spider and Niko & the Juggler Meadow Family Band (http://sometimestapes.bandcamp.com) have just released a split album, entitled “Tending Fires.” It features four never before heard Wood Spider tracks (the best songs they’ve ever recorded), with their full band, and four tracks of Niko performing with the Juggler Meadow Family Band, from a recent live show! They’re releasing an extremely small run of specially packaged hand-printed cassettes. Only 41 copies have been made! Because of this, they will only be sold at shows, so you best go see them if you want to pick one up! DOWNLOAD FOR FREE HERE: http://WoodSpider.bandcamp.com |
2. WOOD SPIDER’S TOUR HAS COMMENCED!
| Wood Spider’s winter tour is finally underway! Their first dates, in Glen Rock, New Jersey, and New Haven, CT, went off very well! We hope that you can make it to one of their other shows! For those of you who don't know, Wood Spider is based out of NY/CT and plays music influenced by vaudeville, ragtime, and modern folk punk. They make noise with guitar, ukulele, cello, accordion, glockenspiel and they also stomp and holler a bunch. Wood Spider, along with Niko & the Juggler Meadow Family Band, has just released a new split album! It feature 4 tracks from each artist, and, in my opinion, is the best thing Wood Spider has ever released. Download it FOR FREE here: http://WoodSpider.bandcamp.com or pick up a hard copy at one of their shows. They're also touring with the a gallery of work from the Spikedriver Collective, an arts collective founded to help promote and facilitate DIY artist collaboration, and build a community of artists who would rather collaborate with other artists as opposed to faceless middlemen and businessmen. |

hey all.
this is a compilation I put together last summer. it's a 17 track compilation of canadian folk punk bands & features several bands involved with folk routes.
it was distributed & released at harbour water fest in halifax, ns in july 2010, & has since made it's way across canada & the states on tour with different bands, in the backpacks of skids, been uploaded onto computers & traded all over the place.
it's out of print, at least for now & it was my hope that kids could spread it around a bit more digitally. the download comes with a scanned version of the liner notes/zine that came with it & the album art.
check out diyhalifax.blogspot.com (our local page) if you want to learn more about the compilation, or read a write up on it.
thanks!

Little Black Dots on the Air
Posted by An Historic on Dec. 8, 2010 at 3:01 p.m.
The new full length album from G. Zarapanecko, Little Black Dots on the Air, is scheduled to be released December 30th, 2010. Album will be released for now on my Bandcamp page with physical formats to follow.
Little Black Dots on the Air is the third release from G. Zarapanecko. In addition to previous elements of modern composition, ambient and improvised music, the new full length employs ideas from drone, noise and jazz, reflecting the experience of recent live performances: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BgsK8l_8S4 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR9lD0ogsWg). Tying the ideas together is a deeply paranoid atmosphere driving all manner of the composing, structuring and performing of each layer of the album.
The album follows the course of a loosely structured narrative about small scale astronomical events within the earth's atmosphere, compromising the earth's relationship with the sun. The earth stretches orbit and axis, dead weight in the solar system, while on earth, faint singularities recondition human beings like so much circuitry. But this is not a concept album, merely a reaction.
First two G. Zarapanecko albums - full length "Zaratozom and Magnus" and e.p. "Glitterdämmerung" available at http://gzarapanecko.bandcamp.com. G. Zarapanecko is another alias that I (Adam/An Historic/Dr. Caterwaul's/etc.) perform under, doing electro-acoustic music with an ambient foundation. DIY Electronica.
